The council is required to work towards advancing equality of opportunity for all people and to foster good relations between people. The council is committed to eliminating discrimination on the grounds of race, sex, disability, sexual orientation, religion/belief, age, marriage or civil partnership, transgender status, pregnancy/maternity or poverty.
The pupil led ‘Everyone is Welcome @ Braes’ group, supported by staff, are working towards reaccreditation of LGBT Scotland’s Bronze Charter mark while supporting LGBTQ+ learners to engage and succeed in school. The group are planning to celebrate a calendar of events throughout the year.
Children's Services have a range of policies and procedures to address equalities issues specific to education to enable us to fulfil these duties. In addition to this all education establishments have a responsibility to report incidents of prejudice-based bullying.
