Parent Council

Alongside the teachers and pupils, parents can make a key contribution to delivering the school's motto: "Build Respect and Earn Success - Be Part of It!" Parental involvement in schools has been shown to contribute to improved behaviour as well as having a positive effect on pupil achievement.

The Parent Council is a group of parents who support Braes High in their work with pupils, represent the views of the Parent Forum (all parents) and promote contact with parents, pupils and the wider community. Supporting the school in its development and improvement over the years, The Parent Council is also a voice for parents on issues that are important to them.

Braes High Parent Council have supported the work of the school in a number of ways, including:

engaging with school staff on:

  • pupils' strong performance.
  • the range of family learning activities on offer.
  • the best way to approach Council-wide budget situations.

taking part in discussions on:

  • the development of new procedures.
  • the best way to continue active learning during the current pandemic.
  • pupils' strong performance.

working with pupils and staff to co-produce the School Improvement Plan.

forming a partnership with the Pupil Council to offer support when required.

providing valuable input into the school's career pathways event for pupils and offering insights into what online supports work best for pupils' learning.

consulting on:

  • changes to the range of qualifications on offer within the senior phase.
  • the continuation of pastoral care following removal of form periods.
  • how the school should celebrate the success of young people.
  • the delivery of Advanced Higher courses.

contributing to:

  • the revision of the school's anti-bullying policy.
  • the content of the new school website.
  • the school becoming a UNICEF gold level rights respecting school.

participating in the Falkirk Learning Festival.

being involved in the appointment of senior leaders within the school.

advising on how the school building can be made as accessible for pupils as possible.

Minutes of Parent Council meetings are shared with the Parent Forum and added to the website. You can also ask to join the mailing list to keep up with everything that is happening.

In addition, the Parent Council and the Friends at Braes run a joint Facebook group, "Braes High Parents and Friends", where information on meetings and requests for help and input are posted on a regular basis. All of the above supplement the information sent directly from the school via the school app, text alerts, news bulletins, Twitter and specific letters to keep an active interest in the activities of the school.
